Punta Mita, Nayarit, Mexico
April 2017 and January 2022: Our first visit to this resort was our first vacation together. We were excited to return to Punta Mita in 2022, which is a one hour drive north of Puerto Vallarta.
One important thing to keep in mind is the Pacific Coast of Mexico is not as busy as the Atlantic (Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Talum, etc). Of course, try to avoid college spring break (March and April).
Where did we stay?
We stayed at the Iberostar Playa Mita.
What did we eat?
The food at this resort is very good. The buffet and the restaurants are both worth checking out.
What did we do?
The point of a trip like this is to decompress. We both brought several books and enjoyed laying out in the sun. However, one day we hiked north on the beach with a group of new friends to enjoy food and drinks at the Litibú Grill. At the grill we were able to meet Gilligan, a beautiful 100 pound+ great dane.
Would we recommend?
Absolutely! This is our second time at our resort. In fact, before Sean’s dad passed away in 2016, we were planning another trip to Mexico and he found this gem of a resort. Seriously, it’s off the beaten path, clean, offers great food, and amazing views of the Pacific.
What makes this location unique?
Humpback Whales! Yes indeed, whales are often sighted here from December to April. The most commonly seen whales are humpback and greys that come here to give birth in the warm, protected waters. It’s also rare (but possible) to see other species like blue whales or sperm whales.
